MSI has certainly drawn a lot of attention to itself, with the release of the CULV-based X-Slim series of laptops, but the company plans to be successful in some other market segments too. This is probably one of the reasons why it's currently toying with various available pieces of hardware to be enabled on some of the upcoming MSI
products. According to a recent report, the Taiwanese company is planning on revealing a new addition to its line of Wind nettops, by introducing the Wind Box DE200.
According to a recent post on Spanish-language msiwind.es, the manufacturer is planning to announce the Wind Box DE200, which will essentially provide users with an alternative to ASUS' Eee Box systems. One of the main surprises on the DE200 nettop is that it will be built using a combination of a low-power Atom processor and an ATI Radeon HD 4350 graphics chip. This basically comes as ATI's solution to NVIDIA's Ion platform, but featuring the same Intel chipset as on all the other Atom-based systems.
Aside from what we said above, the MSI Wind Box DE200 packs Intel's 1.6GHz Atom 230 processor and runs on the 945GC+ICH7 chipset combo. It will boast 1GB of DDR2 memory and a 3.5-inch 160GB hard drive, while on the connectivity side users will see an option for 802.11 b/g/n wireless and HDMI/VGA for external graphics. These are pretty much the general specifications of almost every other netbook/nettop on the market, but the DE200 goes a bit over the majority with the aforementioned ATI HD 4350 graphics chip.
Unfortunately, we have no details regarding the pricing and availability of the upcoming system, but MSI will likely provide it in four different colors, including red, blue, white and black. There's a good chance we'll be seeing it at the Computex 2009 show, starting next week.
