Intel launched its first 32-nm processors based on Westmere architecture. 17 dual-core models were launched, including versions for desktops (codename Clarkdale) and notebooks (codename Arrandale). The novelty is that these processors feature an integrated graphics controller (GPU) and an embedded memory controller. These processors also supports Hyper-Threading technology (except Pentium G9650 model) and, depending on the model, Turbo Boost technology, which allows the CPU to increase its clock when the computer demands for more processing power, and six new instructions targeted to encryption (called AES-NIS or Advanced Encryption Standard New Instructions).
These new processors feature a two-die design: one die containing two 32-nm processing cores and other 45-nm die containing the memory controller and the graphics controller.

Intel also has launched Atom “Pine Trail” platform, comprised with the newest Atom processors featuring built-in memory controller and integrated video and with the new NM10 chipset. Three processors were launched: N450 (single-core, 45 nm, 1.66 GHz and TDP of 7 W), D410 (single-core, 45 nm, 1.66 GHz and TDP of 12 W) and D510 (dual-core, 45 nm, 1.66 GHz and TDP of 15 W). According to Intel these new Atom processors are 20% more power efficient than the previous Atom platform. Notebooks based on Intel “Pine Trail” platform are expected to debut on January 4th.
AMD has launched five new 45-nm processors within Athlon II and Phenom II series. On the table below you can see the models launched and their main specs.
