Step 1: Open the Wind Chassis
To open the MSI Wind NB's chassis:
- Turn the Wind over so the bottom is facing up.
- Remove the battery
- Unscrew all nine screws. There's no need to remove them. As long as they are completely unscrewed, you can leave them sitting in the plastic, which will make it easier to screw them in later.

- Pry open the plastic casing. Gently pry up each corner, being careful not to crack the plastic. You should hear some light pops as each corner unsnaps from the base. Don't force anything. If you meet a lot of resistance, make sure all screws are completely unscrewed.

Step 2: Insert Your DIMM
Now that you have inserted the DIMM, it's time to close the chassis and boot up the computer to see if everything works as it should.
- Snap the bottom of the chassis back into place. Getting the bottom back on is more difficult than taking it off. Be very careful, don't force anything, and make sure all of the ports (the VGA, the three USBs, the head phone and mic jacks) stick through the holes properly.
- Tighten all screws.
- Replace the battery
- Power on the computer. If the computer fails to boot, turn it off, open it up and make sure the DIMM is properly inserted. If it is properly inserted, the DIMM you're using may be incompatible with the system. Remember that the system cannot accomodate more than 2GB in total and it already has either 512MB or 1GB preinstalled. So if you try to install a 2GB or larger DIMM, the system won't start.
- View system properties to make sure the computer is recognizing all your RAM. In Windows XP, you can view system properties by right clicking on My Computer and selecting properties. Note that the system will probably say it has 1.99GB rather than 2GB of RAM.
